5 Tips on How to Get a Grip on Your Golf Slice

Practice makes perfect, as the saying goes. A slice isn’t the end of the world, as annoying as it can be. There are many ways to fix it. Do slow-motion practice swings to help you visualize your swing path. Your goal would be to make sure your path goes right down the target line.

Flex Your Grip

Some golfers use a grip that’s too tight or too light. Try a few different pressure levels and find a grip that works for you. With a firm grip in place, take a neutral position then line your hands up on the club in such a way that you can ‘feel” the club-head.

Stay Square

The club-face should be squared up to the ball upon impact. Anything else will likely cause you to slice the ball. Make it a habit to ensure proper hand placement before each swing, until you can effectively square up without giving it a second thought.

Stance

Standing too close to the ball will throw your stance off, causing your swing to be too upright. Taking a step back will help with properly squaring the clubface during impact. Additionally, make it a point to move your shoulders faster than your hips during the swing.

Lower Your Plane

Having a backswing plane that’s too vertical will often result in a downswing that’s “inside-out” which would be a slice. Lower the plane of the takeaway instead, as this will create a more “outside-in” swing.

Total Alignment

The target line is your best friend for achieving perfect alignment before each swing. Picture yourself standing alone on one end of a straight line – you want the ball to land on the opposite end of that line. Move into position so that your body is parallel to the target line. Using any or all of these tips will help you in overcoming your golf slice.
